Anklets:    As most of the terracotta figurines from Harappa and Mohenjodaro have not survived intact, it is difficult to guess the types of foot ornaments. However, a few skeletons with anklets of paste beads have been found in Harappa.

Anklet Jewellery

Anklets:    Anklets were popularly worn by the women of the Sunga and Satavahana periods. The most common variety appears to be formed of spiral coils, piled on top of each other. Various names such as manjira tulakoti, nupura, padangada, hamsaka and palipada in Sanskrit and Pali languages would suggest a large variety of anklets in ancient India. Sometimes they were embedded with small bells, kinkinis, to produce a jingling sound as the person walked.
With the increase in resources and trade, the Mauryan empire forged intimate relations with West Asian monarchs. This alliance, especially with the Greeks and Romans, introduced their traits and traditions into Indian jewellery. Some of the ancient jewellery found in Texila would suggest such a cultural blending.
The female figures at Amaravati are shown wearing manjira and nupur anklets, which had many coils. The kinkinis had small bells to produce a sweet jingling sound. The male figures of yakshas wore an udarabandha or a waist band.
